Roadmap

Where the index is headed

CityFunIndex covers 134 US cities today, across 50 states + DC. Here is the plan from here — stated plainly, because where coverage is going is part of what the index is worth.

Every city is measured the same way — 23 factors, one transparent Fun Score, recomputed daily. That comparability is the whole point, and it is exactly what makes the index worth expanding: the more cities on one scale, the more useful every comparison becomes. Coverage grows in four steps.

  1. Live now

    134 US cities

Every one of the 50 states and DC, scored across all 23 factors and recomputed daily.

  2. Next

    200+ US cities

Coverage extends down to every mid-size metro, so far more of the country sits on one comparable scale.

  3. On the roadmap

    Cities around the world

The same factor model, adapted to each country’s data, brings international cities into the index.

  4. Where we're headed

    Thousands of cities

A global Fun Score database — thousands of cities worldwide, every one measured the same way.

Why international is on the map

Seven of the 23 factors already draw on global data sources — OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, world news tone, place reviews and search interest don’t stop at the US border. Taking the index international means adapting the remaining, US-specific signals to each country’s equivalent data, and publishing a per-country view of which factors are live. The destination is a single Fun Score database holding thousands of cities worldwide, every one measured on the same scale.
